Stewart Condley was monitoring traffic near Calvary Temple Church on Highway 124 when he spotted a blue Chevrolet Tahoe traveling without its driver wearing a seat belt. After the trooper activated his emergency lights, the SUV continued at a slow speed before suddenly speeding through a red light and entering lanes of oncoming traffic near Walmart. The driver continued running red lights and weaving into opposing traffic, reaching speeds of approximately 95 mph. As the chase moved onto Highway 64 and then through city streets, the driver took additional risks to evade officers, including cutting through a parking lot, running stop signs and driving onto a pedestrian walkway to get around a Russellville police vehicle. Cpl. Condley attempted several tactical vehicle interventions (TVI) to stop the SUV, but the driver repeatedly managed to escape and continue fleeing. The pursuit continued through several intersections as the Tahoe reached speeds of up to 80 mph on State Highway 7 and later traveled the wrong way around a roundabout before turning onto H Street. The driver again ignored a stop sign at North Arkansas Avenue and crossed multiple lanes of traffic, then nearly collided with a red Ford Ranger pickup at the intersection of West H Street and North El Paso Avenue. With the danger escalating, Cpl. Condley carried out another TVI that finally brought the SUV to a stop. Russellville police officers assisted in taking the driver, identified as 33-year-old Drake Cordero Rickerson of New Blaine, and his female passenger into custody without further incident. The passenger was subsequently released without charges, while Rickerson was transported to the Pope County Detention Center. According to the incident report, troopers also found a small amount of suspected marijuana in a bag strapped to Rickerson. He faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing that allegedly created a substantial danger of death, felony criminal mischief, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, refusal to submit to arrest and several traffic violations.
