* (Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only) Chicago, Illinois — On April 7, 2025, at around 2:22 p.m., Chicago Police Officers reportedly saw 46-year-old Demond Williams carrying a knife and attempted to take him into custody, but he ran from them, leading officers through the area and eventually into the Courtyard by Marriott on East Hubbard Street. Once inside, officers surrounded Williams near an elevator and repeatedly ordered him to drop the knife. They attempted to stop him with Tasers, but the effort appeared unsuccessful, with officers noting that his clothing may have limited their effectiveness. Williams remained armed and, after leaving the elevator, moved toward officers while still holding the knife. At that point, two officers opened fire, striking Williams in the upper body. Video released by the Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability shows officers immediately moving to secure Williams and provide medical assistance before he was taken from the hotel and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Two officers were also taken to a hospital for observation, and investigators recovered a knife at the scene. Williams was later charged with weapons offenses and aggravated assault involving police, although those charges were eventually dropped. He remained critically injured following the shooting and died several months later on July 26, 2025, according to the reports.
