What happens when the one thing you have built your life around suddenly disappears? In this thought-provoking talk, Ian Issa shares how a career-ending athletic injury forced him to rebuild his identity and discover a new path. Years later, he recognised the same vulnerability in the cryptocurrency mining industry, where businesses were investing heavily in a single outcome without preparing for what might come next. Drawing parallels between his personal journey and business strategy, Ian introduces the idea of a “second lane” — an alternative skill, capability or pursuit developed before it becomes necessary. He challenges us to step outside our comfort zones, learn things we are not yet good at, build relationships beyond our immediate circles and prepare for change while things are still going well. His message is simple: resilience isn't just about recovering when something goes wrong. It's about creating options before you need them. Ian Issa is the Founder & CEO of HashNet Infrastructure LLC, a Dubai-based cryptocurrency mining company built on the belief that resilient systems are designed, not left to chance. Since entering the digital assets space in 2017, he has founded three companies, with two successful exits, spanning machine learning, decentralized finance, and blockchain infrastructure. Before entrepreneurship, Ian was a national-level athlete, competing while studying in the US until a career-ending injury reshaped his path. Today, he speaks to institutional investors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders on identifying hidden vulnerabilities, building resilient systems, and distinguishing design failures from market failures. His ideas challenge conventional thinking on risk, resilience, and the decisions that shape lasting success.
