Investigators say the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Deontae Ransom, had gone to confront his ex-girlfriend after accusing her of being with another man. According to court records, he allegedly pounded on her apartment door, threatened her with a firearm, and demanded to be let inside while another man accompanied him. Fearing for their safety, residents alerted police, prompting a rapid response to what officers believed was an active shooter situation. As officers searched the building, they heard loud noises they believed were gunfire and moved into the stairwell to locate the suspect.
