FLYDUBAI MID-AIR ATTACK CASE TAKES A MAJOR TURN: India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reportedly invoked Section 3 of the Anti-Hijacking Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in its investigation into the cockpit attack aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Indian Captain Smit Machchhar was allegedly attacked by Omani co-pilot Hammam al-Hammami during the September 30 incident. The aircraft reportedly suffered a dramatic loss of altitude before the situation was brought under control. The injured captain, other crew members and passengers played a crucial role in preventing a potential catastrophe, and the aircraft made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The investigation has taken on a wider security dimension. According to the UAE Attorney-General’s latest findings, the co-pilot allegedly planned to seize control of the aircraft and crash it into Terminal 3 at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. UAE investigators have described an alleged terrorist plot inspired by the September 11 attacks. The NIA’s reported invocation of anti-hijacking and anti-terror laws raises questions about the alleged motive, the legal implications of the incident and whether any wider conspiracy or external involvement needs to be investigated.
