Today we are watching and reacting to Retro Report's documentary on the Purity Culture movement in the US (Shamed by Sex, Survivors of the Purity Movement Confront the Past) - https://youtu.be/Gbdydk3SxSU?si=sZxJrdfkjcn6qH74 As an OB/GYN, I see the long-term impacts of shame-based sex education all the time. And as a millennial who grew up in conservative, small-town Texas, I lived it. The messaging from purity pledges, rings, and rallies didn't just teach abstinence—it taught a generation that their bodies were dangerous, inherently wrong, or something to be feared. Today, we’re breaking down the real physical, psychological, and medical damage caused by purity culture, and talking about how we can unlearn the shame to build healthy, empowered relationships with our bodies and sexual health. If you grew up in this movement, I’d love to hear your story in the comments. Let's make this a safe, open space to talk about it. ❤️ Referenced videos: The Pitt teen pregnancy: https://youtu.be/7vkYBIWMOW0?si=scWwfWgsE6MjfnA6 Christian sex ed: https://youtu.be/w5zV_GusqvQ?si=rFQnm5r8_Rb4R31L 90s sex ed: https://youtu.be/rTp104Kwxm4?si=7MN-lQ5Z8ugcnL-s Influencers on birth control: https://youtu.be/Bg4Cg9GmoZg?si=MxGgroHKWjVvP6pI Hunting Wives: https://youtu.be/PnTwSnG8jq8?si=4OfkCEixQ8zGK_fj Andrea Yates: https://youtu.be/u0g6owdWk7I?si=gdhYgd5znqhD0Mk_ #MamaDoctorJones #OBGYN #PurityCulture #DoctorReacts #SexEd Become a channel Membryo to connect & access perks! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrPhcbDwqWRc-3tteE2BS6g/join MDJ Secret Second Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAkrMPc856DvoxX99IyGYmw 🍑🍆 Beducated is an INCREDIBLE platform with inclusive, evidence-based courses on pleasure - use my affiliate link https://fas.st/t/T9cj1r6A and gift yourself with education you'll enjoy for life. 👅💦 I stream on Twitch weekly (usually Sundays): https://www.twitch.tv/mamadoctorjones - Playlist of full-length Twitch streams for channel membryos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVH2Gpf8wKeRO7TL3vfzJkfsF9eHmQGkP FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mamadoctorjones Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/mamadoctorjones TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mamadoctorjones ** The information in this video is intended to serve as educational information and is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
