CJP DETENTION WARNING: The Cockroach Janta Party had warned days before its October 10 protest that its top leaders could be arrested or detained ahead of the planned “Save Democracy” demonstration in Delhi. Now, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has reportedly been detained from his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56 ahead of the protest at Jantar Mantar. On October 5, CJP co-convenor Saurav Das alleged that the government was planning to arrest him, party founder Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, Ratna Singh and other CJP leaders. Ashutosh Ranka separately said that sources had warned him and other leaders could face arrest under the National Security Act or equivalent provisions. These were allegations and warnings made by CJP leaders, not an official confirmation of a government plan to arrest the entire leadership. The reported detention of Dhruv Rathee on October 10 has brought those earlier warnings back into focus.
