Woman arrested for bringing 'banned sausages' linked to African swine fever

A 47-year-old Chinese national, identified as Sun Nannan, was arrested on suspicion of bringing 21 kilograms of sausages from Shanghai into Japan. The products are linked to African swine fever, a virus that can be found in processed meat and has a fatality rate of nearly 100% in infected pigs and wild boars. The suspect said she carried the goods at the request of someone she met on social media and did not know the sausages contained meat. Reports describe the case as a suspected paid courier job from China, with a reward of about 4,800 yen (200 yuan) if successful.
