Kojo River flooding in Yurihonjo, Akita: emergency safety alert (LIVE)

The Kojo River overflowed in Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture, and an emergency safety alert, level 5, was briefly issued for the river basin. According to the Akita River and National Highway Office, water overtopped the river in the Morinoko district around 7:30 p.m. on the 21st. The city issued the alert to 448 households and 1,204 people in the designated flood zone. Police reported several fallen trees and flooded roads, and no human casualties had been confirmed at that point.
