Ueda calls reaching 2% inflation "a milestone" as BOJ keeps policy rate unchanged

Bank of Japan Governor Ueda described the underlying inflation rate reaching the 2% target as a milestone. The central bank kept its policy rate at around 1.25%. Ueda said the target has not yet been fully achieved and that the bank wants inflation to settle around 2%. Markets reportedly expect a rate hike as early as December.

日銀の植田総裁は、物価上昇率が目標の2％に到達したことについて、「一つの節目」と評価しました。 日本銀行　植田総裁 「2％に基調物価の意味で達したということは、長い間そこ（2％）を目指してきたという面で、一つの節目であるというふうには思っています」 　日銀は30日、一時的な要因を除いた「基調的な物価上昇率」が目標の2％に到達したという見解を示しました。 　これは、目標を導入した2013年以降で初めてで、植田総裁は「一つの節目」と評価ました。 　一方、目標の「達成」という段階にはまだ至っていないとの認識を示しました。 　中東情勢など物価を上昇させるリスクが続くなか、2％前後に「定着」させていくことを重視したい考えです。 　また、政策金利は1.25％程度で維持しました。 　植田総裁は、金融環境は緩和的として今後も利上げを続ける考えを示し、次回も含め毎回の会合で検討するとしました。 　市場は早ければ12月にも利上げするとみています。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
