Large fire at Canadian army base leaves 7 dead, possibly after live rounds hit gas line

A large fire broke out at the Wainwright army base in Alberta, western Canada, according to reports that at least seven people were killed and dozens injured. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on the 17th that a serious incident involving a major fire was under way at the base. Citing military sources, Canadian media reported that live rounds struck a gas pipeline and other equipment during firing exercises, causing an explosion that started the fire. Strong winds quickly spread the flames beyond the base, and firefighters are working to contain it.
