Pesticide Residues Above Limits Found in Chinese Okra; Japan Orders First Inspections
Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has issued its first inspection order after repeated detections of pesticide levels above the permitted limits in imported okra from China. Chinese okra and its processed products will now be subject to mandatory inspection when imported. Three shipments that arrived in Japan between August and October were found to contain pesticides above the limit, with the highest level at 24 times the standard. None of the shipments had been distributed to the market.
