Electric kick scooters used for garbage collection

In Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, the first nationwide trial of using electric kick scooters for garbage collection was held. Instead of running alongside the collection truck, the assistant moves between stops on an electric scooter. The average age of the collection workers is 58.2, and running about 5.6 kilometers a day in the summer heat had been a significant burden. The city hopes the results of the trial will help secure a sustainable collection system.

ごみの収集に電動キックボードを使う全国初の実証実験です。 　神奈川県相模原市で行われたのは、ごみの収集で、助手が電動キックボードで移動する実証実験です。 　助手は現在、車とともに走って回収しています。 　作業員の平均年齢は58.2歳で、70歳に近い高齢の人も多く、夏の暑いなかで走ることは大きな負担になっていました。 　一日におよそ5.6キロ走るといいます。 　市は持続可能な体制の確保に向け、実証の結果に期待を寄せています。
