Man loses 189.4 million yen in fake police fraud despite officer's warning
A man in his 60s from Tsushima, Aichi Prefecture, lost a total of 189.4 million yen to a fraud in which callers posed as a delivery company employee and then a police officer. The man was told he was suspected of complicity in a money laundering case and that his funds had to be checked, so he transferred cash to a designated account. After a financial institution alerted police, a real officer met him in person and tried to persuade him, but he did not accept the warning.
