iPS cell-derived regenerative medicine product transplanted into Parkinson's patient for first time (October 31, 2026)
Sumitomo Pharma announced that it carried out the first transplant of its iPS cell-based regenerative medicine product, Amsepri, for Parkinson's disease earlier this month at Kyoto University Hospital. The recipient is a woman in her 50s who has been discharged and has already returned to work, with the company describing her recovery as very smooth. The product consists of cells derived from iPS cells that produce dopamine, and is designed to improve motor function when transplanted into the brain. Its effects and safety will be checked over two years after the procedure.
