Gasoline Prices Going Up? Subsidy Cut Ahead [Super J Channel] (October 29, 2026)

The Liberal Democratic Party handed Prime Minister Takaichi a proposal to gradually reduce gasoline subsidies. The proposal calls for increasing prices by about 5 yen per month toward early spring as a basic approach. Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara said the government would study the proposal and present how support should be provided. Subsidies currently keep regular gasoline at about 170 yen, and the report says more than 1 trillion yen in taxes was spent from March to August.
