Hornet nest over 60 cm across: are prolonged rains to blame?

After a long spell of rain, a nest of yellow hornets has grown to more than 60 centimetres in diameter, according to a report. A pest control company removing the nest estimated that around 1,200 to 1,300 hornets have developed inside. The explanation given is that rain helped plants grow, which increased insects that the hornets feed on, allowing their numbers to rise.
