Japan Lower House Seat Reduction: Three Parties Agree on 31-Seat Cut in Proportional Representation
Working-level representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party, the Japan Innovation Party and the Democratic Party for the People have agreed on a plan to cut 31 seats from the House of Representatives under proportional representation. The LDP's revised proposal reduced the cut in the proportional segment from 45 seats to 31. The Democratic Party for the People backed the plan, citing provisions that allow a unified party list for proportional representation. The three parties plan to formally confirm the agreement at a meeting of secretaries-general on the 29th and submit a bill to the current Diet session, aiming for its passage.
