Flooding on the Koyoshi River in Akita: Level 5 flood emergency warning (October 21, 2026)

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a Level 5 flood emergency warning at 8:15 p.m. on October 21 after flooding occurred on the Koyoshi River, which runs through Yurihonjo City in Akita Prefecture. The flooding was reported on the left bank near Morikoji in Yurihonjo. Surrounding areas are already inundated, and residents may not be able to reach evacuation sites safely, so they are urged to move to higher ground as soon as possible.
