A step remains on the Kyushu Expressway in Kumamoto Prefecture, where the road shifted during the Kumamoto earthquake. Drivers describe a sudden floating or jumping sensation when passing over it, and say the step is hard to notice when driving. Speed limits have been called for around the area to reduce impact, though some drivers say faster vehicles approaching from behind make them uneasy. NEXCO West Japan says the current work is an emergency measure and aims for full repair with no step.
