Large grassland fire in Mongolia: KDDI apologizes, Chinese media report vehicle carrying Japanese nationals as cause

A large grassland fire broke out in a nature reserve in Dornod province in eastern Mongolia and spread across the steppe. It has since been extinguished. Xinhua reported that a vehicle carrying Japanese executives of MobiCom, a KDDI group company, ignited while driving inside the reserve and set dry grass alight. KDDI apologized and said the team entered the reserve to conduct 4G network communication tests.

モンゴルで大規模な草原火災が発生しました。すでに鎮火していますが、中国メディアは「日本人が乗った車が火災の原因だった」と伝えました。 　中国中央テレビなどによりますと、今月8日、モンゴル東部・ドルノド県の自然保護区で火災が発生し、草原地帯に燃え広がりました。 　火は中国・内モンゴル自治区の国境地帯まで到達したということです。 　新華社通信は火災について、KDDIのグループ会社でモンゴル通信大手「モビコム」の日本人幹部らが7日、保護区内に車で入った際、走行中の車両から出火し、火が枯れ草に燃え移ったと報じました。 　KDDIは今回の火災に際して謝罪し、「当社グループ会社であるモビコムの活動に関連して火災が発生し、モンゴルの自然環境に多大な影響を与えたことを、極めて重く受け止めております」とコメントを出しました。 　自然保護区に立ち入った目的は4Gネットワークの通信試験を実施するためだと説明しています。 　新華社はまた、モンゴルメディアの報道を引用する形で「モビコムの車は絶滅危惧種に指定されているアムールイトウの釣りや狩猟を計画していた」と報じています。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
