My Number Card face-to-face verification now on Android

Japan's Digital Agency has started offering a feature that lets users load their My Number Card onto Android smartphones for in-person identity and age verification. Until now, Android users could use online applications through My Portal and get residence certificates at convenience stores, but not face-to-face checks. The update removes the need to carry the physical card and allows biometric authentication in place of entering a PIN. The video notes that a similar feature has been available on iPhone since 2025.

マイナンバーカードを使った本人確認が20日からAndroidのスマートフォンでも可能になります。 古川デジタル大臣 「実物のカードを持ち歩くことが不要になるほか、これまで必要であった暗証番号の入力に代えて、生体認証を利用できるようになるなど、利便性が格段に向上致します」 　デジタル庁は20日、マイナンバーカードをAndroidのスマートフォンに搭載し、対面での本人確認や年齢確認に使える機能の提供を始めました。 　これまでAndroidのスマホでは、マイナポータルを通じた引っ越しや確定申告などのオンライン申請やコンビニ店で住民票の写しなどを発行するサービスは利用できましたが、機能を拡充しました。 　iPhone（アイフォーン）では2025年から同様の機能を提供していて、デジタル庁はマイナンバーカードのさらなる普及につなげたい考えです。
