Nara Hotel main building set to be designated an Important Cultural Property

The main building of the Nara Hotel, opened in 1909 in Nara, Japan, is expected to be designated an Important Cultural Property of the nation. The national Cultural Affairs Council has recommended the designation. According to JR West, which owns and operates the hotel, this would be the first time a building that still operates as a standalone hotel has received this status in Japan. 国の重要文化財に指定されることが決まった「奈良ホテル・本館」の内部が公開されました。 　1909年に開業した奈良ホテルは「関西の迎賓館」とも呼ばれてきた歴史あるホテルで、アインシュタインやヘレン・ケラーが宿泊客に名を連ねてきました。 　国の文化審議会は本館を重要文化財に指定するよう答申しました。 　所有・運営するJR西日本によりますと、「ホテル単独の建物として現在も営業している建造物が重要文化財に指定されるのは全国初」だということです。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
