Nikkei 225 briefly falls to around 63,000 yen, a one-month low
The Nikkei 225 index fell by more than 1,400 yen at one point after the open on Monday, dropping into the 63,000 yen range for the first time in about a month. The decline followed a sell-off in major US stock indexes on the 16th, with AI and semiconductor-related shares leading losses in Tokyo. Market sources say concerns over large investments by AI companies, which drove last week's steep fall, have not yet faded. Ongoing Middle East tensions and WTI crude futures back above 100 dollars a barrel were also cited as risks.
