Description from TEDx Talks

Over three decades, Alain Lempereur has trained diplomats, humanitarians and government officials in more than 75 countries to negotiate their way through some of the world’s hardest conversations. In this talk, he asks what responsible negotiation really means. Negotiation sits behind decisions that affect many people beyond the table. This talk was part of the first edition of TEDxEuropean University Institute Florence, held at Palazzo Buontalenti, home to the Florence School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute (EUI), in the former courtroom of the Court of Appeal of Florence (Italy). Theme: “Agents of Change” Alain Lempereur holds the European University Institute (EUI) Chair in Leadership and Negotiation at the Florence School of Transnational Governance. He has been affiliated with Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation since 1993. He designed a hybrid leadership programme for senior humanitarian leaders, run worldwide with the UN Global Executive Leadership Initiative (GELI). He has authored around a dozen books on negotiation and mediation, including 'The First Move: A Negotiator’s Companion'. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
