Deer over 1 metre long appear in Sapporo residential areas

Deer appearing in residential neighborhoods of Sapporo have been reported repeatedly. On the morning of the 20th, a deer about 1.2 metres long was seen in the city center, crossing a park with children's play equipment and standing in an apartment building's bicycle parking area. A day earlier, a deer with large antlers reportedly stayed in one location for several hours. A member of the Hokkaido Hunters Association's Sapporo branch linked the sightings to the breeding season and to the low likelihood of capture in urban areas. Police are monitoring the situation.
