South Korea proposes military talks with North Korea amid border crossings
The South Korean government has proposed military talks with North Korea after a series of incidents in which North Korean forces crossed the military demarcation line. According to the South Korean Ministry of National Defense, such crossings have continued. On September 21, a South Korean soldier was injured by a landmine explosion during a search operation in the demilitarized zone, and a South Korean investigation found it had been laid by North Korea. Seoul also wants to discuss restoring military communication lines, but North Korea is seen as unlikely to respond, as it did not answer a similar proposal last November.
