Three lions die at Tama Zoo, likely from heatstroke-related organ failure
Three of ten lions at Tama Zoo in Hino, Tokyo, died in succession this summer after falling ill. Necropsies and tests by outside institutions indicated that multi-organ failure caused by heatstroke was the most likely cause of death. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to add shade and install large fans in the enclosures by next summer and is considering remote body temperature monitoring. The other seven lions have recovered and resumed largely normal public display since the 30th of last month.
