Mistaken for shiitake: the toxin that glows in the dark behind a food poisoning case
A family in Fukui City, including members in their 80s and 30s, picked a mushroom resembling shiitake from a nearby mountain, cooked it and ate it, and was hospitalized with symptoms including nausea. The mushroom is identified as the toxic tsukiyotake, which glows green in the dark. The family has recovered, according to the report. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says tsukiyotake causes the most mushroom poisonings in Japan.
