Finnish Defence Minister: Indo-Pacific and European security ties more important than ever

Finland's Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen, visiting Japan, spoke in an exclusive interview with ANN. He stressed that ties between the Indo-Pacific region, including Japan, and Europe are more important than ever for security. He explained that Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine was a major factor behind Finland's NATO membership. He also said Japan needs to focus on cyber defence and securing food, energy and critical minerals alongside strengthening its defence capabilities.

フィンランドの国防相が来日し、安全保障を巡り、日本を含めたインド太平洋地域とヨーロッパとの結び付きが今まで以上に大切になると強調しました。 ハッカネン国防相 「ロシアは何世紀にもわたってフィンランドの隣国だ。しかし、ロシアは時折、隣国に対して暴力行為を仕掛けてくる」 　日本を訪れているハッカネン国防相は26日、ANNの単独インタビューに応じ、フィンランドがNATO（北大西洋条約機構）に加盟した大きな要因は2022年のロシアによるウクライナ侵攻だと説明しました。 　ヨーロッパの真ん中で戦争が起き、防衛面での味方を増やす必要があったということです。 ハッカネン国防相 「ここ数年の間に、世界の安全保障情勢は劇的な変化を遂げている」 　さらに現在は、北朝鮮が軍事的にロシアを支援し、中国もロシアを経済的に支える重要な存在となっていると指摘します。 　このため、安全保障の面でもヨーロッパとインド太平洋地域との関係が今まで以上に重要だと強調しました。 　そして、日本は防衛力の強化だけでなく、サイバー攻撃への備えや食料やエネルギー、重要鉱物の確保なども重要だと述べました。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
