Who Convinced You That You’re Not Creative? | Sagar Simha | TEDxGCEM
Fear of judgment can turn creativity into something reserved for the talented, according to this TEDxGCEM talk by Sagar Simha, founder of Swarapaana. Drawing on experiences of bringing people together through music, he argues that singing, dancing and creating need not be limited to professionals. The talk includes stories, research and an audience participation segment that shows how making music together can help strangers connect.

Have you ever said, “I can't sing,” “I can't dance,” or “I'm not creative”? What if you were never lacking creativity in the first place? What if you simply learned to fear being judged? In this thought-provoking talk, the founder of Swarapana explores how the fear of judgment transforms creativity from a joyful act of participation into a performance reserved for the talented. Drawing from experiences of bringing people together through music, the speaker challenges the belief that singing, dancing, and creating are skills meant only for professionals. Through stories, research, and an engaging audience participation experience, the talk reveals how making music together can help strangers connect, break down social barriers, and rediscover the joy of creating without fear. The message is not that mastery doesn't matter, but that talent should never be the price of admission to creativity. Because art was never meant to separate the talented from the untalented. It was meant to bring humans together. Perhaps the question isn't whether you're talented. It's who you're willing to create with. Sagar Simha is a musician from Mysuru who grew up surrounded by music and cultural life. Rather than pursuing music solely as a performance career, he envisioned creating a community where music could bring people together. At just 21, he founded Swarapaana in Mysuru in January 2025, transforming his vision into a growing musical movement. Within months, Swarapaana expanded to Bengaluru, establishing a second chapter in one of India’s most culturally vibrant cities. What distinguishes Sagar’s journey is his focus on participation rather than personal recognition. As a career musician and cultural entrepreneur, he has built an inclusive ecosystem where everyone can engage with music—whether they are trained performers, emerging artists, or simply passionate listeners. Through Swarapaana, he is creating spaces for connection, collaboration, and shared musical experiences, demonstrating how young cultural leaders can shape communities through creativity and a shared love for music. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
