In this TEDx presentation, Cecília Bulle addresses the pressure young people face to define their future at an early age, reflecting on the idea that our identities remain static throughout life. The speaker shares a letter she wrote to her future self at the age of ten, in which she imagined her dream home, having four children, and pursuing a career as an agricultural engineer, just like her father, to illustrate how the plans we make in childhood may not reflect the desires we develop later in life. She also presents data from the OECD showing that 40% of 15-year-olds cannot identify the career they intend to pursue. Bulle invites the audience to embrace uncertainty as a natural part of the process of discovery and growth, reminding us that the future does not need to be rigidly defined. The speaker emphasizes that the goal is not to predict exactly who we will become, but to remain curious throughout the journey, recalling John Lennon’s famous observation that life is what happens while we are busy making other plans.
