Rockfall at Cappadocia kills three, injures five

Rocks collapsed at Cappadocia, a UNESCO World Heritage site in central Turkey, killing at least three people and injuring five, according to reports. The rocks gave way on the 29th, sending up a large cloud of dust. Local media say rain that had fallen since the previous day may have made the rocks more prone to collapse. Rockfall incidents also occurred at the site last year and the year before.

広大な大地にそびえ立つ巨大な岩の数々。その独特な形と高さから、「妖精の煙突」と呼ばれています。 　トルコ中央部にある世界遺産「カッパドキア」です。 　日本人に人気の世界遺産の一つですが。 　29日、大きく土煙をあげて岩が崩落しました。 　事故の5時間前、現場にいたという男性は。 事故の5時間前に撮影した人 「もっと向こうで撮影したいけど雨だから近付くのは危ないな」 　崩落する前に撮られた写真には、観光客が多く写っています。 　少なくとも3人が死亡、5人が負傷しました。 　地元メディアによると、前の日から降り続いていた雨が原因で、岩が崩れやすくなっていた可能性があるといいます。 　カッパドキアでは去年とおととしにも岩が崩落する事故が起きていました。
