Latest Finnish defense technology: 21 companies with dual-use solutions pitch in Japan

About 20 Finnish defense companies visited Japan to promote dual-use technologies that serve both civilian and military purposes. The 21 firms presented technologies and satellites with new capabilities, reflecting Finland's position near the Arctic. ICEYE showcased small radar satellites that can capture ground images at 16-centimeter precision at night and through clouds, a capability that can be used for disaster monitoring and tracking military movements. Finnish Defense Minister Hakkanen said partnerships with Finnish firms could give Japanese companies a strong track record for entering the NATO market.

フィンランドの防衛関連企業約20社が日本を訪問し、軍民共用などの最新技術を売り込みました。 ICEYE　オツォ上級副社長 「我々の製品は当初は北極圏の海氷を監視し、安全な航行のために使われていた。そこから社名はICE（氷）のEYE（目）となった」 　ICEYEは海に浮かぶ氷山などの位置を正確に把握するためのレーダーを使った小型の衛星を開発しました。 　夜間や雲を通しても16センチ四方の精度で地上の様子を捉えることができるということです。 　その技術を利用すれば、洪水などの災害だけでなく軍隊の動きを把握するなど防衛目的にも利用できます。 　このようにデュアルユース＝軍民共用の技術が注目されるなか、参加した21社は北極圏に近い国だからこその技術や新しい性能を持った衛星などを売り込みました。 フィンランド　ハッカネン国防相 「日本の企業がフィンランド企業と提携すれば、NATO市場に進出するための有力な実績を得られる可能性も十分にあります」 　ハッカネン国防相はフィンランドの企業はハイテク防衛システムに深く関わっていて、NATO（北大西洋条約機構）での信頼も厚く、日本企業にとって提携するメリットは大きいと強調しています。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
