Manga artist Yoshinori Kobayashi sues state over revised Imperial House Law, calling it unconstitutional
The revised Imperial House Law took effect on the 24th, allowing members of the imperial family to adopt male-line males from former branch houses. Manga artist Yoshinori Kobayashi filed a lawsuit against the state at the Tokyo District Court on the 26th, arguing that this adoption system violates Article 14 of the Constitution, which prohibits discrimination based on lineage. He asks for a declaration that the revised law is void and 100 million yen in damages. At a press conference after filing, he said that restricting succession to male-line males is discrimination against women based on male-dominant attitudes.
