Microsoft offers voluntary retirement to about 60,000 employees amid major AI investment

Microsoft has announced a voluntary retirement program covering about 60,000 employees, more than a quarter of its workforce. The offer applies to some staff in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and India, including units such as Copilot, Xbox and finance. The company is reportedly seeking to control costs while it invests heavily in AI data centers. The report also notes that in July Microsoft announced about 4,800 job cuts, including at Xbox.
