Right-Turn Ban Trial in Nikko to Ease Autumn Foliage Traffic (31 October 2026)

A trial to reduce traffic congestion during the autumn foliage season is underway in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture. From 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on October 31 and November 1, right turns from the Iroha Slope toward Kegon Falls will be banned and some sections will become one-way. Roads are expected to be most crowded between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. The prefecture is asking visitors to avoid weekends and daytime hours through off-peak tourism and to make use of live cameras.

栃木県日光市では、紅葉シーズンの渋滞緩和に向けた社会実験が行われています。 　毎年、日光市では紅葉のシーズンに「華厳の滝」の周辺を中心に車の渋滞が発生します。 　こうした渋滞の緩和のため、栃木県は、31日と来月1日の午前8時から午後3時までの間、「いろは坂」から「華厳の滝」方面に向かう車の右折を禁止するなど、一部の区間を一方通行にします。 　道路が最も混雑するのは午前10時から午前11時と予想されています。 　県は、休日や日中の時間帯をさける「オフピーク観光」のほか、ライブカメラを活用するなど、観光客に交通の分散への協力を呼び掛けています。 [テレ朝NEWS] https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp
