Selling spreads to South Korean market as Samsung falls 9% and chip stocks plunge
As the Nikkei 225 briefly fell by more than 4,000 yen in Tokyo, selling orders spread to the South Korean market. Samsung Electronics dropped as much as 9% and SK Hynix as much as 11%, with major stocks falling sharply. After the steep decline, South Korea triggered a circuit breaker that halted trading across the market for 20 minutes. The sell-off is linked to concerns about the outlook for AI-related investment following the results of the US midterm elections.
