One year after Takaichi's Taiwan contingency remarks: “We will advance dialogue to protect national interests”
Prime Minister Takaichi said Japan will comprehensively advance a strategic mutually beneficial relationship with China and hold dialogue to protect national interests on shared challenges. She described China as an important neighbour with a long history of exchanges despite current difficulties. Takaichi had told the Diet last year that a Taiwan contingency involving the use of force could constitute a survival-threatening situation. Japan-China relations are reported to remain strained since then.
